Marla Ahlgrimm Pledges Support to Pharmacy School

MADISON, Wisconsin – August 6, 2013 – Marla Ahlgrimm recently announced a multimillion-dollar pledge to the University of Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy. The successful businesswoman has promised two separate multimillion-dollar commitments to the school. According to Marla Ahlgrimm, the funds are to be used at the discretion of the School of Pharmacy deans to take advantage of academic opportunities as they are presented. The money may be used to support students and/or faculty, fund research projects, or upgrade facilities, notes pharmacist, Marla Ahlgrimm.

Marla Ahlgrimm, a 1978 graduate of the pharmacy school, credits the University of Wisconsin for preparing her to not only envision the future of women’s health care but to make it a reality. She is the co- founder of Madison Pharmacy Associates and founder of Women’s Health America. Both pharmaceutical businesses stand today as a thriving testament to the education that Marla Ahlgrimm received in the University of Wisconsin’s pharmacy program. She has spent the better part of her career researching treatments for hormone related disorders such as premenstrual syndrome, perimenopause, and menopause.

This multimillion-dollar gift is what Marla Ahlgrimm describes as a small way to repay the institute that gave her such a solid foundation for a successful career. The Marla Ahlgrimm Fund is one of the largest pledges ever made to the School of Pharmacy. According to University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy dean Jeanette Roberts, Marla Ahlgrimm is “a true example of engagement and commitment” and believes that the school offers current students a better academic environment because of her involvement.

The Marla Ahlgrimm fund will be available to future school administrators who will have the discretion to fill in any funding gaps for pharmacy school needs. Dean Roberts has stated that the funds will be a major asset in supporting current and future staff’s professional development and offering assistance to financially challenged students.

Marla Ahlgrimm has stated that the income generated by the Marla Ahlgrimm Fund will remain available to the school indefinitely.

Marla Ahlgrimm notes that she is proud to be an alumna of such a historic university. The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Pharmacy was established in 1883 and is the subject of a highly acclaimed book titled The University of Wisconsin, School of Pharmacy: Its First Century.

Marla Ahlgrimm is a respected pharmacist, philanthropist, author, teacher, and mentor. She is passionate about the practice of pharmacy and patient care and believes that current students are the key to the future health of America.
